I think it’s important to know, that there are ways of leveling that work way better than others. The reason why there are still lots of players who are wasting hours and days on leveling is that leveling has changed in the last time.

In case you think that grinding is the ultimate technique of fast leveling – then you are wrong! I know there’s a lot of confusion about this. Back in the old days, lots of players grinded mobs to gather experience and level up really fast. All they did all day was standing at a spot where mobs would respawn quickly and killed them again and again.

But Blizzard has changed some game mechanics here. Of course you still get all the xp for finishing off a mob. But completing quests now gives more xp than before. Bliizard decided that quests are rewarded with more experience than simple hack-and-slay action.

I think you know what that means – When you do a quest, you will kill mobs and get xp for the quest itself. Grinding saves you some time because you don’t have to travel anywhere, so you get a bit more xp in the short run. But you miss all the xp for completing any quest.

Now, can you guess how many more mobs you have to finish off to make up for the xp you don’t get for questing? For most of the classes in WoW, grinding is just not viable for fast leveling anymore!

There are still some classes how just excel at killing mobs very fast. Mages with the AoE frost talent spec can farm mobs with superior speed. So, if you are not a Frost Mage, I recommend you to stick to questing.

Mage Grinding Talent Build: The Frost Spec

There are two ways to grind – one way is killing one mob after another. The better way is to kill a dozen mobs simultaneous!

Sounds interesting? Then I suggest you to get a frost talent spec as soon as possible. It’s the one and only mage build to take on hordes of mobs simultaneous.

Frost specs focus on freezing your targets on one spot and nuke them with AoE spells. Make sure to aim for a deep frost build (0/0/71) to get all the great talents.

And then you will want to support your abilities with the best Glyphs!

Now look at the grinding tactic: As I’ve said, grinding with the frost spec is all about using area of effect spells like Cone of Cold, Frost Nova and Blizard to kill off as many mobs simultaneous as you can.

You have to pull them, gather them on one spot and hit them all at once with the power of your spells.

This way will will be able to farm gold, reputation and items much faster. Again, if you simply want to level 1-80 as fast as possible, questing is more efficient and much more fun.
