Priests are known to be very capable healers in WoW. Priests however, can also deal nice amounts of damage as well. If you choose to play this class you will have a choice between different races. If you role horde the choice of races when it comes to the Priest class will fall on Trolls, Undead and Blood Elves. If you want to make a Priest and be part of the Alliance you can choose between a Draenei, Dwarf, Humand and Night Elf priest. Depending on the race you choose you will have different passive abilities but the choice will surely depend on you and your game play.
Priests use mana to cast both their offensive and healing spells and in order to be efficient at what they do they need to generate mana so a lot of spirit is needed, intellect is needed to give them a mana pool and spell power is needed to make their spells more powerful. When it comes to talent trees, priests have tree different talent trees to choose from depending on their game play – Holy, Discipline and Shadow. Click here to watch the video: Priest Leveling Guide
The Holy talent tree is used for players that want to heal in PvE scenarios. Spells like Guardian Spirit and Circle of Healing will become available to the priest through this talent tree and together with the spells every priest has and the other great talents that can be found in this talent tree, a Holy priest is one of the better healers in the game. The Shadow talent tree gives the priests the ability to do a lot of damage.
Shadow Priests have several damage over time spells like Devouring Plague and Shadow Word Pain which are very effective. They are also greatly valued in raids and groups not only because they can be good damage dealers but also because of their ability to heal and give mana back to the party members. Priests who are more into the PvP game play will definitely choose the Discipline tree. Because the discipline tree makes the priest a tough cookie with damage absorbing talents and nice new spells, it’s a nice choice.
Priests are also famous for their buffs: Power Word Fortitude, Spirit buff and Shadow Protection buff. They can also resurrect, dispel magic and disease, mass dispel, shackle undead, fear targets, mana burn etc. What is nice when it comes to resetting agro is the ability to fade but in general a Priest shouldn’t get much agro since he is always in the back whether he is a healer or a damage dealer In case you get a bit high on the threat meter you can always fade which heavily reduces your threat for an amount of time. Priests can only wear cloth armor. A priest normally doesn’t have a lot of hitpoints unless he gets a lot of high tier PvP gear but they do however have a nice mana pool. If you decide to become a Shadow priest you will have to have particular stats on your gear. You should aim for a lot of spirit, intellect, spell power, and hit and crit rating.
For holy priests it is similar but they for them haste rating is much more important than the hit or crit rating. One downside of a priest is leveling it because it takes quite a bit of time, even if you decide to level it as a Shadow priest. Once you reach the talen Shadow form at level 40 things will go a lot faster for you though and once you reach level 80 you will be surprised about how many people whisper you asking you to join their group.
